The Adventures of the Investigator + Madam VEGA Part II Governor’s Island Edition
2018. video performance series. lengths variable
This is a follow up series created during an A.I.R. Gallery Residency on Governor’s Island. To reach this location, I repeatedly took a ferry to and from the island on a daily basis. In these short video performances, the Investigator is transported to a different isolated landscape. The fantastic mirrors the real, becoming a time traveling being exploring and trying to decipher a strange place with a complex history, now existing in transition as industrial park, recreational space, tourist destination, abandoned neighborhood, site of revived environmental projects. An island surrounded by the sea. This place overlooks Ellis Island where my own ancestors arrived, a sense of time shifts with the land and vision of New York from across the water. The character performs different rituals, tests physical boundaries, and carries out experiments that function as site specific interactive poems between body and landscape, shifts in time. The Investigator navigates with specialized modes of understanding, physical language, and fluctuations between sense experience and logical reasoning. The videos present a catalogue of the adventures, a testing ground for futile yet humorously non-sensical activities.
